Get Fit/ Well Being & Tips!!
Bend and stretch
Always warm your body up before you start any vigorous exercise to prevent injury. A few leg lifts, step climbing, a brisk walk or a light jog will do the job. Stretching after exercise lengthens out your muscles and reduces muscle soreness.
Pill popping
Get all your energy from food! Vitamins can do a lot of good but they won't give you the energy you need to work and play. Only calories release energy, and vitamin supplements don't contain any.
Fitness regime
Start exercising to lift your mood and energy level, tone up your muscles and keep your weight constant. But be realistic in your expectations, not fanatical… If you are exercising for half an hour three to five times a week and eating three healthy meals a day, then you are the right size for you.
Drink up!
Drink up! Your body is made up of 75 percent water (in brain tissue it's up to 85 percent), which is why you need to replenish its stores and drink at least eight glasses each day — more if it's hot or you've been exercising.
Learn to Love Your Shape
There is no perfect weight. Every girl is different and we all have different body shapes. If you can confidently say that you eat healthy foods most of the time (three meals a day and snacks), and exercise three or more times a week, then you are the right shape and weight for you. So learn to love it!
Milk Substitutes
If you don't like the taste of milk, and think soy milk tastes even worse, get your calcium intake from other non-dairy sources like sardines, almonds, oatmeal, spinach, tortillas and dried figs.
Protein Plus
If you're a vegetarian, make sure you're getting enough protein and fat. Replace animal products with yummy things like tofu, nuts, beans and peanut butter rather than primarily living on toast and pasta. And don't forget your vegies!
Iron to Fight Fatigue
Fight fatigue by eating more iron-rich foods like red meat, chicken, fortified breakfast cereals, spinach and beans. Boost your vegetable and fruit intake — the vitamin C will help your body use the extra iron.
Bath Benefits
Soak up the benefits of your bath: tubs can leave you totally relaxed, especially if you add a few drops of essential oil. The warm water plumps up your skin so it'll feel extra smooth when you get out.
Sporty Selection
Have fun getting fit by including a variety of sports in your weekly routine. Dawson'ek's Meredith Monroe (Andie on the show) makes time to go mountain biking in the Hollywood canyons. Jog three to six kilometres twice a week and take a kickboxing class.
H20 Is The Way To Go
Drink more water in summer. Water makes up around half our body weight and is the life fluid for every activity of every cell in our body - get your daily dosage - eight glasses of water a day - cordial, soft drinks
and juices that contain water don't count.
Cool Calcium
Beat PMS by adding more calcium to your diet. New research shows that three to four serves of dairy products a day can reduce PMS symptoms by 48% within three months.
Soap It Up!
Big soap bars are a cool way to clean your body. They fit in your hand perfectly, lather up well and look good in your bathroom. We love Lush handmade soap bars, Origins Bath Bars and Davidoff Cool Water Aquatics
Exfoliating Loofah Soap.
Fab Baths
Baths are a great way to relax and send you off to sleep. Colder baths in summer can wake you up and invigorate your body. Drop a bath bomb in the bath to moisturise your body and give off a sweet smell.
Fab Calcium
Calcium helps maintain healthy bones and teeth, proper muscle and nerve function, as well as reducing the symptoms of PMS. Get your supply from broccoli, cheese, milk, fortified soy products, yoghurt and canned salmon
Smelly Business
Your sense of smell is directly linked to your memory. That's why vaporising an essential oil whilst studying can trigger you to remember the facts when you smell that same oil on a tissue during your exam.
You Are What You Eat
Clear, bright, healthy skin depends on your hormones as well as how well your internal organs are working (namely kidneys, liver and intestines). A sluggish system can give you pasty, blotchy or pimply skin. Great skin foods include: fruits and veggies (especially orange and green ones like avocado, carrots and apples), dried fruit, cereals, grains, dairy products, brown rice, nuts, seafood.
Time to Clean Up!
Blitz your make-up bag & keep your make-up brushes clean. Dirty brushes won't spread make-up evenly and germs can accumulate. Wash them weekly in warm water with a mild soap or shampoo.
To Pig Out or Not To Pig Out?
It's true! Pigging out at night does not make you fatter! It's how much you eat, not when, that counts. Your body responds to the amount of calories you consume in 24 hours. So if you can't resist those midnight snacks, just go easy on the stuff you eat throughout the day.
Gulp it down!
Drink more than the normal eight glasses of water a day in summer, for your skin and internal organs. It'll cool you down and keep you from getting dehydrated. Carry a water bottle wherever you go and drink more if you're exercising.
The Natural Look
Natural-looking make-up is what you want this summer. To get it, mix some moisturiser with your foundation and blusher and smooth lip gloss on top of your eyeshadow and lipstick.
Christmas Pressies
Get your Christmas presents early — beauty products and fragrances are cool things to give to friends or mum. Walk into any Myer/Grace Bros or David Jones to find unreal pre-packed beauty gifts.
Drink Up This Summer
Don't get de-hydrated this summer. Drink water regularly throughout the day. If you don't like the taste, sweeten it with fresh lemon or lime juice (cordials don't count!).
Get Skipping
Start skipping - it's a cheap and easy way to tone up your thighs, calves and butt while improving your aerobic endurance and burning fat. Buy yourself a skipping rope and aim to skip for about 10 minutes each day.
Clean Off Your Make-Up
Cleansing cloths and make-up wipes are a lazy girls dream. Snoozing with your make-up on leads to more zits, broken eyelashes and dark circles underneath your eyes, so clean it all off before bed.
Smoothies For You!
Snack on yummy fruit smoothies. The slushy stuff is both healthy and nutritious. Cut back on fat by ordering yours with skim milk and yoghurt instead of full-cream milk and ice-cream.
Instant Energiser
Get moving! Exercise is an instant energiser. When you're working out your body releases natural, feel-good endorphins making you feel more positive and energetic afterwards, so get to it!
Summer Fun
Pack it in your beach bag - an oil-free sunscreen for face, sunscreen for body, a cool hat, lipgloss with an SPF factor, and a leave-in conditioner to slick through your locks after a swim.
Summer Make-Up Kit
Your essential summer make-up kit should include a tinted moisturiser that contains an SPF, a coloured lipgloss, waterproof mascara and cream blush to dab on your cheekbones and eyelids.
PMT Busters
New research shows that extra calcium may help zone out the yucky symptoms of PMS — mood swings, depression, bloating, food cravings, tummy cramping and lower backaches — so bring on the yoghurt, milkshakes, cheese and chockies!
Drink Water!
Drink as much water as you can. Water hydrates every part of your body, including your skin, so it pays to keep a bottle with you at all times. Coffee, tea, heat and exercise can dehydrate skin, making it look dry and dull instead of healthy and glowing.
Smile!
Don't forget your teeth. A clean, white smile requires regular brushing and a whitening toothpaste can help remove yucky stains caused by tea, coffee and smoking. Regular flossing removes the gunk that gets stuck between your teeth and keeps your breath fresh.
PMSing
PMS — that time when you're really cranky and super hungry for junk food the week before your period — can be relieved by adding more calcium to your diet. So start drinking a little more milk and eating a little more yoghurt or cheese now.
Extra Sparkle
Shimmer and glitter look wicked on your bod. Invest in a cool shimmer cream or glitter gel or just add loose glitter to your normal moisturising cream. Smooth it over shoulders, arms, tummy and chest for extra sparkle.
Hippy chic
Hippy chic is laid back and really cool at the moment. Get the look with beaded accessories, embroidered headbands and bronze, gold and pink make-up. Emphasise your eyes and cheeks and go for gloss on lips.
Bliss out!
Bliss out in a bath with a bath bomb. Just run a warm bath, pop one in and watch it fizzle. For around $5, a bath bomb gives you a lush bath and soft, sweet-smelling skin.
Sports Gear
The right exercise gear is important. Invest in a good pair of trainers and go walking. Even though it's classed as low-impact exercise, the foot still hits the ground with about one and a half times your body weight, so you need shock-absorbing supportive shoes. Thongs, sandals and cute trainer-lookalikes just won't do. Cross-trainers are your best bet 'cos they'll support your feet when you do other sports as well.
High Fibre Brekkie
Eating a high-fat breakfast like croissants or bacon and eggs is a sure-fire way to gain weight. Research shows that people who eat a fatty breakfast feel hungrier and eat more food and fat throughout the day. Kick off with a high-fibre, carbohydrate-rich brekkie like cereal or porridge instead.
Exam Stress
Stressed out and can't sleep before the big exam? Brew yourself a mint or chamomile tea (both herbs have a soothing, relaxing effect). Drink before bed and burn a few drops of lavender in an oil burner.
